Where can I park?

Las Americas International Airport offers 24-hour parking facilities, 365 days a year, with by-the-hour or long-term fares, across from the passengers’ terminal.

Does Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) offer parking space for handicapped people?

There are 3 parking spaces for the handicapped on Section A of the General Parking Lot, next to the short-term parking facility, and one parking space in the same section next to the North passageway.

What land transportation choices are available at Las Americas?

There is cab service from Las Americas to any destination in the country. They are available on the first level of Terminal A (South). The transportation union authorized by the Ministry of Tourism to operate at the airport is SICHALA. In addition, you may find public transportation to Santo Domingo on the second level at Terminal A (South).

Can I rent a car at Las Americas?

Car rental counters are located at the exit door from Customs.

What articles are not allowed for carry-on?

The following articles are not allowed in your carry-on luggage:

  1. Liquid soap
  2. Contact lenses cleaning solution (saline)
  3. Liquid gel deodorant
  4. Hair spray
  5. Hair gel
  6. All kinds of lotions and creams
  7. Lip gels
  8. Liquid/paste makeup removers
  9. All kinds of foams
  10. Paint/metal cleaners and removers
  11. All kinds of colognes and perfumes
  12. Hair shampoo and conditioners
  13. Shaving creams and gels
  14. All kinds of toothpastes
  15. All types of knives
  16. Any sharp object, scissors and nail clippers
  17. Fire arms or their replicas
  18. Corkscrews
  19. Fireworks, lighteners or matches.
  20. Sports gear such as golf clubs, hockey clubs, skiing gear, tennis/squash racquets, and ice-skates.

If a passenger must carry on a liquid, gel, or spray product, he/she must declare it at the inspection point and its content will be verified. Such articles must be packed separately in a transparent, resealable 3 fl oz bag (or 90 ml) in your carry-on bag, and every container cannot exceed such capacity.

Liquids or gels for diabetic passengers with their prescription cannot exceed five (5) fl. ounces or 148 ml per container.

Prescription medicines can be carried on board without the prescription to the passenger, after its contents have been duly verified at the inspection point.

Baby formulas, creams and lotions shall only be allowed to persons traveling with babies. These cannot exceed 4 fl oz or 120 ml per container and their contents must be verified at the inspection point.

If passengers buy at the duty free shops some of the articles that are not allowed (1 to 14 on the list above) they must be packed in a transparent, plastic bag with the purchase invoice fixed on top, which must specify the passenger name, flight number and destination, with the warning that under no circumstance should the invoice be removed before boarding the aircraft; in the event that the invoice is not attached, a new inspection will be performed.

Note: All other non-authorized articles would be confiscated, unless the passenger chooses to give it to a relative or send it with the checked luggage.

How early should I arrive at the airport before my flight?

It is recommended to arrive at the airport three (3) hours before flight time. For more information, please contact your airline.

What are the requirements for traveling with a minor?

The answer to this question is contained in the following communication from the General Directorate of Immigration:

The General Directorate of Immigration issues the following public statement regarding the requirements for minors under 18 years of age to travel out of the country:

1.      If a minor is traveling with one of the parents, he/she should have the authorization from the other parent supported by an affidavit from the Procuraduría General de la República (the Attorney General’s Office).

2.      If a minor is traveling with a third person or airline, one of the parents is empowered to authorize the minor by an affidavit from the Procuraduría General de la República and delivering the following to the Dirección General de Migración (Immigration):

a.       Original passport of the minor and of the accompanying person

b.      Copy of the Visa or Residence Permit

c.       If the minor is a Dominican citizen, copy of the birth certificate

d.      2 front-view 2x2 photographs, of the minor only

e.       Copy of authorizing parent’s identity card

f.        The permit has a cost of RD$535.00 in taxes and stamps. A VIP permit costs an additional RD$300.00

3.      If the parents are abroad they must go to the nearest Dominican Consulate and request a Consular Power of Attorney, authorizing the child to travel with the accompanying adult.

Could I accompany my son or an elderly/handicapped relative to the departure gate?

Your can only accompany your son or elderly/handicapped relative up to the security area access door. Airlines provide boarding service. For more information, please contact your airline.

What is the cost for the tourist card and where can I get one?

The cost of a tourist card is US$10.00  (ten US dollars), only payable in that currency. This card can be purchased at the tourist-card stand located on the right-hand side of the immigration entrance.

What happens if I exceed the tourist card permit?

The tourist card permit is valid for thirty days. If the tourist exceeds that time, he/she must pay an additional fee at the time of departure.

How much is the departure tax and when should it be paid?

The departure tax costs US$20.00 (twenty US dollars) and must be paid in that currency. Most airlines include it in the airfare but in others the tax must be paid at the time of registering for departure. For more information, please contact your airline.

Can I get tourist information at Las Americas airport?

There are stands of the Ministry of Tourism (www.godominicanrepublic.com) where you can get brochures and general information on different destinations in the Dominican Republic.

Where is the lost & found department located?

The Lost & Found department is managed by the Terminal Administration located on the third level of Terminal B (North). Tel. 809-412-5888, ext. 2123.

What is the maximum luggage weight allowed?

The weight and number of bags varies with airlines. Please contact your airline on this matter.

Can I smoke at Las Americas airport?

Smoking is not allowed inside the terminal, but you can do so outside the terminal. Also, you may find a post-security smoking lounge at the North Terminal.
